Visual ExplorationThis project was mostly to decide on visual design. The structure of login forms were styled after industry best practices based on research I completed after a visual style was determined.
When it comes to visual design, individual preferences come strongly into play. Some people prefer a simple and clean white page with plenty of white space, and others prefer to see more colour. The bold orange brand colour was decided by the marketing teams to be our corporate branding. However because of the possible alert-connotations associated with a bright orange, the colour is not commonly used in our applications. Therefore the login page was a very nice place to tie in some of that branding colour. |
Testing and Results
The designs that feature a full orange background were deemed "too intense" by the majority of the research results, and the designs that were primarily white or grey were found to be too "plain".
The layout that is very similar to the Microsoft Metro UI style was found to be a good balance of colour, white space and content. That visual pattern was selected to proceed to the next step of design research where the usability of the forms were evaluated.
