Yichen He's Portfolio
Welcome! Below are some examples of the types of design tasks I have worked on. I have included a case study of a project to provide some insight into the process for a small contained design project. Please contact me if you wish to see more examples of any specific project or hear more about the methodology (as many projects are under R&D protection - Enterprise software). |
UI overhaul for Foglight for Virtualization. Taking inventory of all the different pages, features and components for one many viewable screens. Brainstorming how to re-group components for better IA and flow.

Optimizing the flow for a capacity director screen to troubleshoot virtual environments, revamping the location and placement of forms for multiple setting configurations and moving monitoring visualization components based on user research feedback.
Research into how to display large virtualized environments visually with multiple levels. Looking into various types of tree-based visualization to develop a proprietary "wheel and bucket" based interactive visualization that can show the states of hundreds of thousands of virtual machines and their parent hosts, clusters and centers.
Foglight for Virtualization: Created series of interactive high-fidelity prototypes to test and iterate on before passing on to engineer teams to implement.
Worked with card sort to determine the optimal information architecture for an alerts menu and a customizable downloadable PDF that reports on Hardware (such as ESX Hosts) monitored by Foglight.
Developed and tested a series of visual log in screens to use as standard for large umbrella of Quest products.
Worked in a centralized design team of 15+ designers to develop a pattern library and style guide. One of the sections I authored contained guidelines on data visualization colours and their usage guidelines.
Worked with developers to create a code library of components and all their different states. Created spec documents as well as best practices manual for usage.
Worked on some exploratory cycles for a prospective Machine Learning DevOps solution. Conducted interviews, created storyboards, worked with product and engineering teams to create low fidelity prototypes and conduced user testing.
Complete UI audit of old product and overhaul of all mobile app interfaces, director web app, website. Remapped user flows and updated visual and interactive guidelines. The HiMama app can be found on both iOS and Android stores.
Lead design for KACE Cloud Mobile Device Manager app from ideation to the current release. Worked with product on user requirements, conducted design research, created flows, wireframes, low fidelity and high fidelity interactive mockups.
Worked with MPAC to consolidate many legacy systems to a web/tablet UI. Conducted multiple flow audits, reorganized IA based on user research and ultimately created many screens that can be linked together into a fully interactive prototype.
